MAPA...AT A GLANCE

The Massachusetts Association of Public Accountants was organized in 1946 with the dedication to improve the accounting profession and the status of its individual practitioners. It also serves as a liaison for its members to build rapport with state and federal agencies, and the financial communities throughout the state. The association is affiliated with the National Society of Public Accountants and is a member of the New England States Association of Public Accountants.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Professional Development Continuing Education
MAPA professional development programs are approved by the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy and the Accreditation Council For Accountancy.

Professional Development Seminars
Seminars are held each year at various locations throughout the state. Topics and materials presented at the seminars are by acknowledged experts chosen on the basis of keeping the practitioner up to date on new and emerging developments which affect the profession.

Annual Conference on Taxation
Each year, MAPA co-sponsors with the Internal Revenue Service programs to update and exchange expertise in tax law procedures.

State Tax Seminar
In January of each year, MAPA invites representatives from the Department of Revenue to brief members concerning new developments and procdural changes of the Department.

Referral Service
The MAPA Office maintains a file of members interested in obtaining clients in their geographic area. This service is available at no cost to members.

Tax Form Service
Copies of out-of-state individual and corporation tax forms are available to MAPA members at no cost.

LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

MAPA is organized into a wide range of committees that deal with current and continuing issues. Members are appointed annually to committees such as: Education and Program, State, Federal and Financial Community Liaison, Legislative, Ethics, Practice Continuation, Insurance, and Awards and Scholarships.

PUBLICATIONS

MAPA-GRAM
Bimonthly Bulletin containing news and photos concerning accounting and taxation, along with news and features about the activities of individual members, and of the Association.

MAPA Directory
The annual Membership Directory listing members' names in alphabetical order and by city and town. The Directory is mailed to government agencies, banks, IRS, and other financial institutions.

Special Mailings
Special mailings are made from time to time to keep members up-to-date on recent changes in laws or policies that may affect accounting procedures.

COLLEGE RELATIONS

An important part of MAPA's public service program is its College Relations Program. Each year, the Association awards several scholarships to upper class undergraduates who are preparing for a career in public accounting. In addition, the Association invites students to join while in school at no cost.

Continuous Education
Numerous varied programs are offered constantly throughout the year for educational development and for satisfactory completion of mandatory certification requirements.

Membership Certificate
Every full MAPA member receives an attractive Membership Certificate, which is suitable for framing, and provides visible testimony to professional standing.

Membership Pocket Card
All members of MAPA receive a pocket card which is evidence of your being a member in good standing in your professional organization.

Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics serves as a hallmark of the practicing accountant who renders the highest level of professional services, and who observes a strict standard of ethics.
